I am Abinaya and I come from the beautiful country named India. More specifically from Chennai in Tamil Nadu, a southern state in India. India is full of beautiful places, from Kashmir in the North to Kanyakumari in the South. In India you can find multiple cultures, all types of weather, all kind of landforms, breadth taking views of the mountains, rivers, forests, desserts, lakes, sea and wonderful beaches. I'm so very blessed to be born in such a wonderful country, which has been blessed by mother nature. That said, I've lived all my life in Chennai, before I moved to Seattle after my wedding.
It is a treat for an artist to live in a region where the sun shines bright making the already beautiful sceneries more stunning. I've grown up being inspired by the lovely sunsets, mountain views, amazing flowers, and wonderful beaches of Singara (in english that adjective means, Decorated) Chennai. Seattle is nevertheless than Chennai in its beauty. Here every season brings something else wonderful. The beautiful seasonal colors of leaves and flowers, and the non-stop rain continue to fascinate and inspire me. I sure will never run out of subjects for my artwork.
Now coming to my artistic side, I have enjoyed drawing since I was a child. I am basically a self-taught artist. I prefer learning by doing and exploring my own creativity. I see my artwok as a process of experiment, always something new and unique. Painting is, has and will always be my passion, and I never know what will capture my imagination next.
My style is varied, like many artists. I enjoy working with Acrylic for their brilliant color, ease of use, quick drying time and versatility. I like to use metallic and pearl paint, which creates a wonderful shine and adds glamour to my paintings. I also like to use mixed mediums in order to enhance the color of my painting. The materials and technical process used to create my painting change according to my ideas and thought.
Color and texture are the fascinating properties of an artwork and are focus of my paintings. Often, the image itself is an important part of the work and often it is not. My paintings reflect the moment and inspirations from the nature's world.
Below are my few Artworks from a bigger collection:
Pencil Sketches
I just love to pencil sketch, at the stroke of a pencil magical wonders can be done. Moreover, it also involves less effort than painting. Sometimes to bring in the fine details of the drawing, I use to pencil sketch. Variations of tracing, shading and tinting can produce marvelous effects on the drawing. Many of my pencil drawings were based on fantasy art, as they allowed me to more freely bring out my imagination on paper. I have also done other drawings based on Indian gods, nature, animals, birds etc.
Crayon Drawings
Here are few of my crayon drawings.
Watercolor Paintings
Watercolor is almost loved by every artist for its brilliant color, fast drying quality , transperent effect and cost. After crayons and color pencil, water color is the first painting medium which made me enter into this colourful dream world. The unpredictability and uncontrollable nature of watercolor get me more excited everytime, it is the expressive medium of all. Most of my watercolor paintings are inspired by nature and indian heritage.
Mixed Medium
Mixed medium can open up a whole new range of possibilities. I always enjoy the excitement of blending one color medium with the other, in order to produce wonderful effects in my paintings. Most of my mixed medium paintings are based on nature, indian gods, mermaids, faries and love.
Acrylic Paintings
I love to use acrlyic paint for their fascinating quality of fast drying, flexibility to use with other mediums and for their vibrant colors. Few of my acrylic paintings on canvas are now for sale and more paintings are yet to come.
